Geometry Vocabulary Chapter 5
Terms in this set (15)
A segment that connects the midpoints of the sides of a triangle.
A segment, line, or ray that divides another segment at its midpoint and is perpendicular to that segment.
Three or more lines that meet at one point.
Point of Concurrency
The location where three or more lines meet.
The concurrency of the perpendicular bisectors of a triangle.
The concurrency of the angle bisectors of a triangle.
Median (of a triangle)
A segment extending from the vertex to the midpoint of the opposite side of a triangle.
The concurrency of the medians in a triangle.
Altitude (of triangle)
The segment from a vertex of a triangle perpendicular to the opposite side.
The concurrency of the altitudes of a triangle.
Triangle Inequality Theorem
The sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle must be greater than the third side.
In a triangle, the longest side is across from the largest angle.
In a triangle, the largest angle is across from the longest side.
In any triangle, a segment joining the midpoints of any two sides will be parallel to the third side and half its length.
Perpendicular Bisector Theorem
Any point on the perpendicular bisector of a segment is equidistant from the endpoints of that segment.
Angle Bisector Theorem
Any point on an angle bisector is equidistant from the sides of the angle.
