Geography
The study of Earth in all its variety
Cardinal Directions
Basic directions on the Earth: north, south, east, west
Intermediate Directions
Directions between the cardinal directions: northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest
Axis
Imaginary line that runs through the Earth's center between the north and south poles
Map
A flat drawing of all or part of the Earth's surface
Globe
A round scale model of the Earth
Hemisphere
One-half of the globe; the Equator divides the Earth into Northern and Southern Hemispheres; the Prime Meridian divides it into Eastern and Western hemispheres
Latitude
Location north or south of the equator; measured by imaginary lines (parallels) that are numbered in degrees north or south
Longitude
Location east or west of the Prime Meridian, measured by imaginary lines (meridians) numbered in degrees east or west
Scale
A measuring line, often called a scale bar, helps you figure distance on the map, usually in miles or kilometers
