1st amendment
grants all citizens freedom of speech, religion, assembly, petition, and press
2nd amendment
right to bear arms, as well as each state having a well regulated militia
3rd amendment
prevents the military from housing soldiers in private homes
4th amendment
protection against unreasonable searches and seizures (must have a warrant)
5th amendment
guarantees right to due process and protects people from self-incrimination (I plead the fifth)
6th amendment
guarantees the right to a speedy and fair trial as well as the right to an attorney
7th amendment
right to a trial by jury in federal civil suits
8th amendment
outlaws cruel and unusual punishment
9th amendment
rights not outlined in the Constitution are still protected under law
10th amendment
powers not given to the federal government are given to the states
