hypothesis
An explanation based on scientific reasoning that can be tested to see if it is correct. A hypothesis usually starts with an "If."
control
The part of an experiment where the independent variable is left unchanged to provide a comparison.
variable
Something that can be changed in an experiment.
dependent variable
Something in an experiment that can be measured or observed to see how it responds to a change made to the independent variable.
independent variable
Something changed in an experiment on purpose to see how affects the outcome.
constants
Things that remain the same on purpose during an experiment.
qualitative data
Description of what can be observed: size, color, shape, smell.
quantitative data
Descriptions using number measurement (how much): width, height, volume, speed, or temperature.
analysis
Study something carefully using a method.
model
A three-dimensional representation of something.
trend
The general direction in which data is headed or the way it is changing.
classification key
The classification and naming of animals, plants, minerals, and rocks in an ordered system that shows their natural relationships.
domains
A division of organisms that rank above a kingdom based on how they share DNA traits.

The largest group into which living things can be classified.

The second smallest of animal classification groups.
