to describe how two things are similar and different from one another
Phrase
A group of words that are related but do not contain a verb and a subject together
Plot
Sequence of events in a story

a person, place, or thing where someone gets information
Transitions
Words, phrases, or sentences that show the relationship between or bridge ideas
Point of View
the perspective from which a story is told.
Central Idea
the point that the author wants you to remember most (main idea)
Inference
a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.
Theme
the main subject that is being discussed or described in a piece of writing
Synonym
a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase
Antonym
a word opposite in meaning to another
Stanza
a grouped set of lines within a poem
Concrete Details
the use of specific words (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) to create vivid word pictures that appeal to one of the five senses
Thesaurus
lists words grouped together according to similarity of meaning
