-INCREASED WOB -HYPOVENTILATION -ATELECTASIS -PULMONARY EDEMA -DELIVER MEDS TO PT'S WHO CANNOT BREATH IN DEEP -INADEQUATE COUGH -INCREASED AIRWAY RESISTANCE -NEED FOR AID WHEN WEENING FROM MECHANICAL VENTILATOR
HAZARDS OF IPPB THERAPY
-EXCESSIVE VENTILATION (leads to decreased levels of PaCO2) -EXCESSIVE OXYGENATION (in COPD pt's who's normal PaO2 is 50-65mmHg) -DECREASED CARDIAC OUTPUT -INCREASED ICP -PNEUMOTHORAX -HEMOPTYSIS -GASTRIC DISTENTION -NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION
ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATION OF IPPB THERAPY
1) UNTREATED PNUEMOTHORAX (IPPB is safe for the pt. with a pnuemothorax who have a chest tube in place) 2) PULMONARY HEMORRHAGE
