select view> lock guides to lock set guides in place so that they aren't accidentally moved.
Select view>show grid to see non-printing lines that can be used to align objects symmetrically within a document.
Snap to Grids/Guides
allows the edge of objects to "snap" or be drawn to guides that you put in place or the grid when visible.
Open a Panel
to open a new panel, go to the window menu and select the panel name that you would like to open. This could be something like the "character" panel.
move a panel
Any panel can be moved by selecting the title at the top of the panel and moving it to the desired location in the workspace.
dock a panel
just like moving a panel, you can "dock" or connect the panel to any window that has a tab and lights up in blue when you hover over it. Default docked panels include Layers, swatches, and adjustments.
close a panel
To close a panel, select the drop down menu on the right hand side within the panel and select "close." This will remove the panel from your workspace. It can be reopened from the window menu.
select window>Character to make adjustments such as font, color, alignment, and tracking within a panel vs. the control bar for the type tool. The type tool must still be selected to be able to add the type to the document.

to group layers, select the layers that you would like to add to a group by holding down the shift key and clicking. Then use the layer menu and select "group layers" or select "Command+G" on your keyboard.

adds depth to a layer by using highlights and shadows to give it a chiseled, three-dimensional look.
adds a border to an object or type. Layer styles allow you to choose where you would like the stroke to appear.
a visual effect consisting of a drawing element which looks like the shadow of an object, giving the impression that the object is raised above the objects behind it. ... Softening the edges of the shadow.
imports a file as a smart object.
the contents of the file are update when the source file changes. It is beneficial when the same image file is used across multiple documents.
Filters applied to a smart object to change it's appearance. These can be edited after they are applied. Examples include painted and sketched effects.
adjust the length of video layers
To stretch out or lengthen video layers, each layer must be lengthened individually by selecting the right edge of the layer and dragging to the right. It cannot be adjusted in the group.
update linked content
right click on the layer and select "update all modified content"
combine multiple layers into one layer
merging all visible layers into the background layer to reduce file size.
quick export as PNG
high quality image that maintains transparency.

used to store files that will be used across all adobe programs to complete projects. For example, image files created in photoshop can be accessed in premiere using a library.
