Key Concepts:
Terms in this set (15)
Simple Random Sample (SRS)
Sample in which each set of elements in the population has an equal chance of selection
Stratified Sample
the population is divided into strata and a random sample is taken from each stratum, reduces variability among samples
Cluster Sample
Makes sampling easier by finding representative clusters and randomly selecting a few of those. Each cluster is equally likely to be selected, but only the whole group is selected. Ensure they are not biased
Voluntary Response Survey
Allows people who feel stronghly to respond
Voluntary Response Bias
Bias due to the manner in which people choose to respond to voluntary surveys.
Convenience Sample
Composed of individuals who are easily accessed or contacted.
Undercoverage Bias
occurs when some groups in the population are left out of the process of choosing the sample
Nonresponse Bias
When participants refuse to answer
Response Bias
They respond, but not accurately due to question wordjng
retrospective study
Selecting and interpreting data from a past event
prospective study
Selecting individuals to watch and record
Completely Randomized Design
Total random assignment of participants to treatments
randomized block design
in a randomized block design, the subjects are organized within blocks(homogenous groups) and then randomly assigned to a treatment
Matched Pairs block design
Right arm v left arm. Twins. Then get different treatments randomly
Confounding
Inability to separate variables in experiment to know what is causing the response variable to change
