Dominant
This type of trait will show up in the offspring if contributed by any one of the parents. The genes for this type of trait are represented by a capital letter. It is the "stronger" trait.
Recessive
This type of trait will only show up in the offspring if it is contributed by both parents. The genes for this type of trait are represented by a lowercase letter. It is the "weaker" trait and can be "hidden" by a stronger trait.

The genes. It tells you what alleles an organism has.
Phenotype
The expression of the genes. It is what the organism looks like.
Homozygous
Having the same alleles. It can be represented by two capital or two lowercase letters.
Heterozygous
Having the different alleles. It can be represented by a capital and a lowercase letter.
