Fundamental Counting Principal
The total number of choices equals the product of those independent choices.
Prime Numbers
A prime number is a whole number greater than 1 whose only factors are 1 and itself. A factor is a whole numbers that can be divided evenly into another number. The first few prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23 and 29. Numbers that have more than two factors are called composite numbers.
Add One Before You Are Done to include both endpoints
For instance 2 - 20
20 - 2 +1
Combinations Formula
n! / k! ( n - k)!
Permutations
n! / (n-k)! - when order matters and you do not want to repeat terms
Percent Decrease
500 (orignal) - 400 (current) / 500 original
*Always put the previous amount first and divide by previous amount
Percent Increase
750 - 600 / 600
*600 was the original amount
* always put the larger number first when subtracting. The original/previous number always goes as the base
The Power Rule
Power Rule
Find the prime factors of the exponent.
Example: 6^24
24 = 2
12 24 = 2
2
6 24 = 2
2
2
3
Use the power rule for exponents to set up the problem. The power rule states: (x^a)^b = x^(a*b)
6^24 = 6^(2 * 2
2
3) = ((((6^2)^2)^2)^3)
Solve the problem from the inside out.
((((6^2)^2)^2)^3) = (((36^2)^2)^3) = ((1296^2)^3) = (1679616^3) = 4.738e18
Surface Area of Cube

The Group Formula
Total = Group1 + Group2 + Neither - Both
