Before Starting Engines (WWC)
W-Before engine operation, all rotor tie-downs removed
W-while fully restrained at appropriate eye design position, I must be able to manipulate all flight controls, propulsion, fuel, and fire t-handles
C-Do not grasp foam pad on glare shield to adjust seats.
Cockpit equipment checks (NN)
N-If APU ACCUM LOW does not appear, pull manual override lever on accumulator manifold until APU reached self-sustaining speed.
N-If APU fails, do not turn off BATT switch, note BITE indications.
APU GEN SWITCH ON/STAB CLEAR (WW)
W-STAB slews full down due to AC power being applied
W-Due to radiation hazard, ensure no one is within 3 ft of TACAN antennae when power applied to the A/C
EDECU-Check signal val code 25% (NNN)
N-Verify 25% on Q indicator for 701D to verify DAS plug installed
N-EDECU config may be verified on STS page
N-Code displayed after AC power application at rate of 4 seconds on, 2 off during startup, and 30 sec off after both engines are shutdown w/ AC power applied
Master Warning panel-Check 1ENG OUT and 2 ENG OUT, LOW ROTOR RPM are illuminated (N)
N-If segment light does not appear, pull 1/4 inch then push back in to reset bulb.
Flight controls-check first flight of day (W,C,N,W,N)
W-check cyclic for restrictions
C-If HYD access door is open, ensure rotor blades aren't over nose to prevent contact with WSPS
N-Limit force applied to pedals with SAS/BOOST-off
W-If PRI SERVO PRESS caution, or bypass valve jammed appears during collective movement, do not fly.
N-Check for no more than 1.5" of play in collective and pedals.
W-If any part of check fails, DNF
FMS initialization - Check as required (N,N,N)
N- FMS defaults to last known position and automatically updates date, time and position with GPS data once available.
N- INIT will automatically engage once the GPS acquires satellites and determines location.
N- The Calculator PERFORMANCE function is only for value reference after verifying correct configuration of the A/C
Set up MFD/FD/FMS for mission (N)
N- Only 2 UTO's can be loaded using the mission card. Load addition UTO's directly into the IDM. OPERATIONAL must be displayed prior to JVMF initialize/login (approx. 2 mins.)
STARTING ENGINES (C)
C- Prior to engine start, ensure rotor blades are aligned with A/C centerline +/-20° before engaging rotor brake otherwise damage may occur if blades are static over UES.
Gust Lock Engaged caution - Verify off (N)
N- If Gust Lock and STAB UNLOCKED cautions are not visible on CAS page, Verify on EICAS page.
STAB UNLOCKED caution - Verify off (W)
W- If stabilator is Unlocked with rotors turning, Stabilator could contact the Tail Rotor.
Rotor brake- On, if Required (N,W)
N- If conditions permit; engines may be started with an inoperative or not installed Rotor brake.
W- If rotor blades move due to brake slippage, Shutdown Engines or release rotor brake.
C- If started with Ignition OFF, abort start do not turn ON.
N- There will be no NP or Q, MAIN XMSN PRESS and All No. 1 and No. 2 hydraulic cautions remain on until the rotor brake is released.
N- FUEL PRESS caution should disappear before engines stabilize at ground idle. If FUEL PRESS lights momentarily illuminate, do not use FUEL BOOST PUMP CONTROL switches to extinguish.
C- PCL's from idle to off, do not depress starter button, it can damage the auto start switch actuator.
C- Cyclic neutral, collective less than 1" above full down, pedals centered until 50% NR to avoid anti flap bracket + bushing damage.
N- If starter drops w/ PCL off, press and hold starter button until 52-65% Ng is reached.
C- Starts w/rotor brake off and rotor engagements, minimize cyclic inputs to prevent droop-stop pounding.
N- NG may be above 65% w/starter drop out due to a one second delay
ENGINE ABORT START CRITERIA (NNNET)
1. No TGT TEMP INC (Light off) in 45sec.
2. No ENG OIL PRESS within 45sec.
3. No NP 1 or 2 within 45 sec (rotor brake off).
4. ENGINE STARTER ON caution disappears before reaching 52% Ng Speed.
5. TGT TEMP reaches 851 before idle is attained (63% Ng).
Systems Check (NNTEH)
1. Ng Speed 63% or greater within 3% of each
2. NP 1 or 2 not in 20-40 or 60-90 range
3. Transmission PRESS at least 20
4. ENG OIL PRESS at least 22
5. HYD PUMP cautions 1+2 disappeared.
Hydraulic Leak Test System (N,N)
N- move switch to test and release, if not, it will leave circuits open and will not test.
N- If backup pump is still running, reset off to auto for next test
Tail Rotor SERVO check (N)
N- If backup pump and #2 T/R do not illuminate, then LDI is INOP
ENG PCL's - FLY (W,N)
W- Restrict the rate of movement when the tail wheel doesn't denote LOCK, could result in turning the helicopter and cause injury or loss of life.
N- For rotor brake operation you must have 45% NR for S-E and 57% D-E is reached prior to advancing EPCL's.
GEN 1 FAIL and Gen 2 FAIL cautions disappear above 97% NR (N)
N- During SE ground operation with collective full down NP/NR may read 99%, raise collective slightly to bring NP/NR to 100%
HIT CHECK (Anti-ice check) (N,N,N,W,W,C,N)
N- HIT Check is performed on the ground to identified performance shift, trend engine performance and verify proper operation of ENG Anti-Ice bleed and start valve malfunction.
N- Hit/Anti-Ice checks can be deferred 5 hours under operation in adverse conditions (dust, sand, beach, river beds).
N- Perform HIT check prior each Mission Day
W- Any part ENG Anti-Ice valve check fails, DNF.
W- Do not cycle Anti-Ice Bleed and Start Valve more than once, Valve malfunctions can cause ENG flameout at low power settings, or during rapid collective movement, DNF if TGT rise is less than 30 degrees or switch cycling REQ, ENG Anti-Ice ON advisory will not go off.
C- Malfunctioning ENG Anti-Ice and ENG inlet Anti-Ice may result in power loss up to 40% max torque available at 30min TGT demands, any part fails DNF.
N- Steps E and F contain instructions for performing Anti-Ice system check.
Sequential Operational HIT Check (N)
N- FORCE option is disabled, FORCE function remains visible
PARKING AND SHUTDOWN
Collective raise no more than 1" (N,N)
N- If external power is req'd it shall be connected and EXT POWER switch to RESET
N- If a blind shutdown must be performed complete normal shutdown of NO. 2 engine first.
ENG Power Control Levers-IDLE (W,C)
W- Restrict the rate of movement from FLY to IDLE when tailwheel lockpin is not engaged.
C- During Shutdown Cyclic Neutral, Collective no more than 1" above full down, pedals centered.
Droop Stops- Verify in, about 50% NR (N,C)
N- If one or more droop stops fail to seat during shutdown, shutdown an engine to lower rotor idling NR, if they still do not go in accelerate to above 75% NR. Repeat rotor shutdown slightly displacing cyclic, if they still do not go in clear the rotor disc and proceed with normal shutdown procedures with cyclic neutral.
C- Do not raise collective during rotor coast down, as it may damage the Anti-flap stops.
ENG PCL's to OFF (C)
C- Mandatory 2min cool down at 90% Ng or less, or restart within 5min, or wait 4 hours
DEC/EDECU signal validation fault codes----Check (N,N)
N- Loss of A/C Power will generate no fault codes
N- Select the FMS status pages to find the DEC codes
GENERATORS APU switch - OFF (N)
N- After EGI 1 and EGI 2 switches are off, wait 15 Seconds before turning off APU
