denominator
The bottom number in a fraction.
Shows how many equal parts the item is divided into.
numerator
The top number in a fraction.
Shows how many parts we have.

Examples: width, length and height
area
The size of a surface.
The amount of space inside the boundary of a flat (2-dimensional) object such as a triangle or circle.
perimeter
The distance around a two-dimensional shape.
cubic unit
the label of the volume of a 3D shape
square unit
the label of the area of a 2D shape or the surface area of a 3D shape
expression
Numbers, symbols and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together that show the value of something.
equation
Numbers, symbols and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together that show the value of something.
It will have an equals sign "=" like this:
7 + 2 = 10 − 1
inequality
There are other special symbols that show in what way things are not equal.
a < b says that a is less than b
a > b says that a is greater than b
a ≤ b means that a is less than or equal to b
a ≥ b means that a is greater than or equal to b.
prime
can be divided evenly only by 1, or itself.
And it must be a whole number greater than 1.
composite
A whole number that can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 or itself.
product
The answer when two or more numbers are multiplied together.
x-axis
The line on a graph that runs horizontally (left-right) through zero.
y-axis
The line on a graph that runs vertically (up-down) through zero.
coordinates
A set of values that show an exact position on a graph.
Example: the point (12,5) is 12 units along, and 5 units up.
absolute value
How far a number is from zero.
Example "6" is 6 away from zero, but "−6" is also 6 away from zero.
Area of a Triangle
1/2 base x height
or
base x height divided by 2
Area of a parallelogram
base x height
