protagonist
The main character or hero of the story
antagonist
The character, thing, or force working against the protagonist
major character
a character who is absolutely necessary to the work. He or she usually appears frequently in the story
minor character
A character who does not appear that often and is not very necessary to the text as a main character. This individual could be removed from the story without a dramatic change in outcome
