The implied attitude of the narrator or author towards the subject
Frame story
A story that provides a vehicle or frame for telling other stories
characterization
The method used by a writer to develop an individual in a work of literature
direct
The method of characterization used by writer in which they use specific words that directly inform the reader how to think or feel about a character
indirect
The method of characterization used by writer that reveals his or her own opinion of the character and shows other details that provide clues about the character's personality
protagonist
The main character or hero of the story
antagonist
The character, thing, or force working against the protagonist
major character
a character who is absolutely necessary to the work. He or she usually appears frequently in the story
minor character
A character who does not appear that often and is not very necessary to the text as a main character. This individual could be removed from the story without a dramatic change in outcome
