Suspense is a feeling of expectation, anxiousness, or curiosity created by questions raised in the mind of the reader. Two examples of suspense from the story are when Rainsford is on the afterdeck and he hears the three gun shots. The other example of suspense from the story is when Rainsford lands on the island and sees the palatial chateau.
