(First) American textile mill
ready-made clothes, attractions (like circuses, theaters, and museums) ,became centers of commerce with many available jobs, stores with products from all over (like hat shops, china shops, and shoe stores)
A lot of pollution, disease, fires spread quickly, dirt/gravel streets turned to mud, dirty and unsanitary (no sewers, garbage thrown in street, etc.), child labor more common in cities
Long hours (often 12-13 hours a day, 6 days a week), low wages, dangerous conditions (machines were very dangerous to be around), hot in summer/cold in winter, often hard to breathe, very loud = hearing problems.
