He is a servant at Wuthering Heights. He is very religious, he would always tattle on people to Mr. Earnshaw, and he is a hypocrite. He doesn't mind his own business and has a strong country-Yorkshire accent.
Contrast Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange.
Thrushcross Grande is a wealthy, opulent house that is well kept. There are marble floors, rugs, and chandeliers, and the Lintons are very proper people. Wuthering Heights is antique and country-like. It is old and big, but not well kept.
12. How is Catherine different when she returns from her five-week stay at the Grange?
She is very proper. Her hair is brushed, she is wearing a dress, and is very lady-like. She treats Heathcliff how Hindley treated him. Heathcliff is upset because of Catherine.
How does the death of Frances affect the household?
Hindley gets really upset, and starts drinking. He doesn't watch Catherine, and abuses the servants. All of the servants leave except Joseph and Nelly.
What part does Hareton play in a scene between Hindley and Heathcliff? What does the incident indicate about Heathcliff's feelings?
Hindley drops Hareton over the banister, and Heathcliff catches him. Healthcliff says that if he had known that he was dropped, then we wouldn't have caught him; but in reality it shows that Heathcliff may not be as bad as Nelly says.

She loves Edgar because of his wealth and social class and because she realizes that Heathcliff's world is not enough. Their love is superficial. She loves Heathcliff more than anything, and she says, "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."

Heathcliff has been gone for three years, and Catherine's life has been boring. Heathcliff is a gentleman, is educated, is rich, is taller, and is more handsome.
What effect does Heathcliff's return have on Catherine? On Edgar? On Isabella?
She is very excited, and looses all of her manners. Edgar is upset and jealous. Isabella is infatuated with him. She thinks she loves him, but she only loves his money an his looks. Whenever Catherine finds out that Isabella "loves" Heathcliff, she tells her that she doesn't want to be with him, which only makes her want him more. Isabella thinks that Catherine is only saying that because she wants Heathcliff for herself.
What significant statement does Catherine make about death during her illness?
That her spirit will not rest until she is with Heathcliff, and that their love it eternal. That when she dies if she isn't with Heathcliff, then she will come back and haunt everyone.
What kind of boy is Linton when he comes to the Grange after the death of his mother?
Nelly kind of takes care of him. A weak, pale, sickly, whiny boy. He looks like Isabella, but acts more like Heathcliff.
What use does Heathcliff plan to make of his son?
He wants to use him to take over Thrushcross Grange. The plan is to make Linton marry Catherine, and all he wants is revenge.
Describe the relationship between Hareton and Cathy.
Hareton and Cathy are cousins. Catherine makes fun of Hareton for being illiterate and she acts higher than him when they are together. Hareton likes Catherine and constantly tries to impress her. He is upset that she and Linton spend time together. By doing this, Catherine is acting a lot like her mom.
How does Heathcliff persuade Cathy to come to Wuthering Heights?
Heathcliff manipulates and guilts Catherine. He does this by telling her that Linton is dying of a broken heart and that she should come visit him.
What is important about the fact that Edgar and Nelly are sick at the same time?
Catherine must take care of both Nelly and Edgar. Also, neither of them can watch over her, so she can do whatever she wants.
How does Linton appear, physically and emotionally, during his first meeting on the
moors with Cathy?
He is very nervous and jittery, because he fears that Catherine will reject him and Heathcliff will be upset. He is also tired and severely ill with tuberculosis. He continuously tells Catherine that he is fine. He cannot hold a conversation because he is apathetic.

Mr. Green now works for Heathcliff and doesn't fulfill Edgar's wishes.

He is afraid that she will be ashamed of him. This evokes when Catherine said that marrying Heathcliff would be degrading for her. He knows that he will always be self -conscious around her.

His love for the dead Catherine. He thinks that dying is a good thing because he wants to be reunited with Catherine.
How does Heathcliff act during his final dlays?
He is unpleasant and out of his right mind. He is talking to ghosts that he cannot see, and he continuously murmurs Catherine's name. He is also saying that he is hopeful that he will die tomorrow.
How has harmony been restored to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange?
Heathcliff dies in Catherine's room by the window, where she used to hang out. Everything that has caused trouble at the Heights has been destroyed. Heathcliff has received his final dying wish of being reunited with his one true love. Now there is only happiness at Wuthering Heights.

The house is mysterious, simple, dark, and old. In the book, Heathcliff is related to a gypsy. Gypsies steal, tell the future, and move around a lot. He is dark and mysterious like his house. They are both unkempt.

that night?
Zilah hasn't worked there that long and doesn't know whats going on. Zilah accidentally puts Lockwood into a room that is forbidden, and the room belonged to Catherine Earnshaw. She tells him that Wuthering Heights is haunted.

Linton is very whiney and always feels sorry for himself. Linton and Catherine are being forced together, but Catherine likes him anyways. They are cousins, and they get along well. Edgar hates that they are together because he doesn't want her near Heathcliff.
