Exposition
noun; the part of a play, novel, etc., in which the theme, setting, and main characters are introduced
Inciting Incident
noun; is an essential plot element in a work of fiction, where an event is struck upon the protagonist(s) where their life changes from the norm to adapt to the story's plot.
Rising Action
noun; noun a related series of incidents in a literary plot that build toward the point of greatest interest, or the moment of most intense action where the protagonist's greatest challenged is directly addressed.
Climax
noun; 1. the highest or most intense point in the development or resolution of something; culmination: 2. (in a dramatic or literary work) a decisive moment that is of maximum intensity or is a major turning point in a plot.
Falling Action
noun; the part of a literary plot that occurs after the climax has been reached and the conflict has been resolved.
Resolution
noun; the point in a literary work at which the chief dramatic conflict is worked out and leaves the audience feeling satisfied with the work as a whole.
Denouement
noun; the final statement of the intricacies of a plot, as of a drama or novel, sometimes not referred to as a resolution because it leaves the reader with questions. Though it is used as a synonym for "resolution," there is a subtle difference.
