The Record-Keeping Function
Keeping correct records on local, national and world news.
The Entertainment Function
Using comics and interesting photos to give viewers/readers a diversion from hard news.
The Social Function
In years past, news was carried by word of mouth in a community. Now the press gives information on events going on in a community.
The Marketplace Function
A forum in which all sorts of ideas can be presented. The public can contact the press with concerns over projects, environmental issues or any kind of individual concerns.
The Agenda-Setting Function
Journalists tell what to think about. The media has the power to dictate what we talk about as individuals and address as a nation. This is suppose to be done objectively but is not always.
