Plot

Theme
the lesson of a text; what the author wants you to learn
Point of View
the perspective or vantage point from which the story is told, this is a deliberate choice; first person, or third person
First person
narrator is a character in the story (uses I, me, my)
Third person
narrator is an outside observer telling what is witnessed and/or what characters think or feel (uses he, she, it, they)
Climax
this is the highest point of interest or drama in the story; the problem is at its worst
Rising Action
the events, problems, and complications that lead to the climax; describes the conflict the characters must face
Conflict
the problem in the story; person vs person, person vs, self, person vs nature, person vs society
Falling Action
the conflict is being resolved and the characters' lives return to normal
Denouement
the final resolution to the main complication or conflict
Turning Point
occurs when the main character makes a major decision that changes the course of the story.
Inciting Incident
the event or decision that starts the conflict
Exposition
The first part of the plot, tells the background of the characters and the setting is explained at the beginning of the story.
