integer
All whole numbers (both positive and negative) and zero.
rate of change
the relationship between two quantities that are changing, this is also slope
systems of equations
consists of two or more equations that have the same variables where each equation represents a line
diameter
A straight line passing from side to side through the center of a circle or sphere.
radius
A straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle or sphere.
inverse operation
operations that undo each other
simplify
To change a mathematical expression into its most basic form
solve
To find the value of an unknown in an equation.
evaluate
To simplify/solve a mathematical expression/ equation by replacing all variables with given values.
expression
A mathematical phrase without an equal sign.
equation
A mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign.
like terms
terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power
coefficient
number in front of a variable
exponent
A mathematical notation indicating the number of times a quantity is multiplied by itself.
base
The number that gets multiplied when using an exponent
absolute value
the distance a number is from zero (distance is always positive)
proportion
an equation that states that two ratios are equal
ratio
a comparison of two quantities by division (a fraction)
infinite solutions
any value for the variable would make the equation true
no solution
any value for the variable would make the equation not true
complementary angles
Two angles with a sum of 90 degrees
Linear Pair
Two adjacent angles with a sum of 180 degrees
Supplementary Angles
Two angles with a sum of 180 degrees
Vertical Angles
Two non-adjacent angles formed by intersecting lines.
Transversal line
A line that intersects or crosses two other lines
Alternate angles
Angles that are on opposite sides of the transversal
Interior angles
Angles that are inside of the parallel lines
Exterior angles
Angles that are outside of the parallel lines.
Congruent
Figures with the same shape and size.
Parallel lines
Lines with the same slope and therefor never touch.
Adjacent
having a common vertex and a share common side.
Corresponding angles
two angles on the same side of the transversal. One is exterior and one is interior. They are NOT adjacent.
Same- Side interior angles
between the two parallel lines AND on the same side of the transversal.
Right angle
An angle that measures 90 degrees
Acute angle
An angle that measures less than 90 degrees
Obtuse Angle
An angle that measure more than 90 degrees
exterior angle
and angle formed by a side and an extension on the adjacent side.
Remote interior angles
The two angles inside of a triangle that are not adjacent to the exterior angle.
similar
Two figures that have the same shape but not same size
isosceles triangle
a triangle with two congruent sides
scalene triangle
a triangle with no congruent sides
