where does most water vapor in the atmosphere orginate
evaporation from oceans
why do hurricanes form over tropical Climates instead of cold climates
the air over tropical climates has a lot of moisture.Condensing water vapor FUELS hurricanes.
if an air mass over the gulf of mexico and moves towrads georgia, what type of air/weather would most likely bring
warm moist air
what type of weather would an air mass which formed over canada and moved towards the U.S bring
dry cool air
which way would the wind be blowing towards the sea, or towards the land
The wind will be blowing towards the land because land heats up very quickly during the day.
describe the air in a tropical climate. IS IT COOL, OR WARM IS IT DRY, OR MOIST air
what are polar air masses where do they form
polar air masses are cold, and dry. they form near the poles ( at high latitudes)
compare how land and water absorb heat
water absorbs and releases heat slowly, while land absorbs and releases heat quickly
a rock and a cup of water are exposed to the same amount of light/heat source. would rock or water heat up more quickly
the rock would heat more quickly.Think about the swimming pool in the summer! The concrete around the pool is very hot(it burns your feet!)but the water is nice and cool.
why do thunderstorms often happen on days with HIGH temperatures? warm air rises quickly.
then it cools ( dew point)and condenses
what causes earth to have seasons
Earth is tilted on it's axis as it moves around the sun
what do we call warm rising at the equator and sinking at the poles
how does water evaporation affect hurricanes
it makes them stronger;it fuels them
In June, the average temperature in Statham is higher than the average temperature of Statham in December. explain why this occurs
the tilt of the earth causes Statham to receive more direct sunlight in June and less direct sunlight in December
Atlanta, Georgia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina are located at the same latitude.the average temperature of Atlanta in December is 52
F . The average temperature of Myrtle Beach in December is 60
F.Why would Myrtle beach's temperature be warmer than Atlanta's?
Myrtle Beach is by the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean will release heat throughout winter to keep Myrtle Beach warm
A mountain is located by sea. There is a city right on the coast( in between the mountain and the sea).Warm evaporated air is carried by the wind from the ocean all the way to the mountain. However, the mountain prevents the warm air from traveling past the mountain. What type of weather would the city most likely experienc
This city will experience lots of rain
How do thunderstorms form?
Thunderstorms form when the environment is unstable. There is a warm rising air mass surrounded by cool air masses. The air mass rises very rapidly
what types of conditions cause hurricanes to form?
Where water is the warmest and warm currents meet.
Why does wind occur at the beach?
The water and land are not absorbing and releasing heat at the same rate which causes air pressure differences.
What are tropical air masses?Where do they form?
Tropical air masses are warm and moist. They form at low latitudes (near the equator)
Tornadoes and hurricanes are two types of severe weather that people living in the United states experience .Explain how these two dangerous occurrences are different.Make sure to explain their differences in their formation including where they form, their wind speeds and how long they last
Tornadoes and hurricanes both form from winds moving in different directions. On average, tornadoes move faster than hurricanes. Hurricanes last much longer than tornadoes.Since hurricanes are fueled by evaporating water, then they move across the ocean for weeks! Hurricanes occur when it is very hot, so they only form in tropical weather. While tornadoes can occur in many locations and temperatures.Hurricanes start off as thunderstorms which eventually turn into a tropical storm.
