Thermal Energy
The movement of heat energy from a warmer object to a cooler object. A type of kinetic energy because of the movement of particles.
Sound Energy
A type of kinetic energy produced by vibrations of matter.
Heat
A kind of kinetic energy that makes objects warmer. It is kinetic because of the vibrations of the particles.
Chemical Energy
A type of potential energy that is stored in the links between the atoms and molecules that make up food and other fuel.
Electrical Energy
A type of kinetic energy that comes from the movement of charged particles.
Light Energy
A type of energy carried by waves. The Sun is the main source of this type of energy on Earth. Lasers are also examples of using this type of energy to cut through metal.
Nuclear Energy
A type of potential energy stored in the links between the protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom. Energy is released when atoms are joined together or split apart.
Transforming Energy
When energy changes from one form or type of energy to another.
Transferring Energy
When energy passes from one object to another. (Example: Newton's Cradle)
Law of Conservation of Energy
The idea that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change form.
