The basic building block (unit of structure) for all living things.
An organism made of only one cell. A single-celled organism.
An organism made of more than one cell
The matter that make up the ingredients of the world. Listed on the periodic table.
A chemical bond between two (2) or more elements.
Carbon & Hydrogen compounds
The two elements in a compound that make something organic.
Any thing that is living, once living, or comes from a living thing. (Cell compounds contain Carbon & Hydrogen). Also known as Biotic factors in ecosystems.
Any non-living thing. Also known as Abiotic factors in ecosystems.
Any change in an organisms surroundings that causes it to react.
A reaction by an organism to a stimulus.
The old and WRONG idea that life comes from nowhere.
An organism that can make its own food (energy). Also known as a Producer (ex: Plant)
An organism that cannot make its own food. Also known as a consumer (ex: animals).
The ability to maintain a stable internal condition (Stable temperature, stable chemical balance, etc.).
Grouping together organisms with similar characteristics.
The study of how organisms are classified.
The two (2) name naming system used to identify organisms. Comes from the "Genus" name and "Species" name from the levels of classification.

An organism with cells that do not have a nucleus. (PRO means NO).
An organism with cells that do have a nucleus. (YOU have a nucleus. YOU NU)
A tool used to classify organisms using a two (2) choice step system for identifying the organisms. (Always has 1 less step than the number of organisms being identified).
