Hooke's law
F = -kx, where F is the force exerted by the spring, k is the spring constant, and x is the distance the mass on the spring is displaced
oscillation
synonymous with cycle, the movement that occurs during one period of harmonic motion
simple harmonic motion
a repeating or periodic motion in which the force that restores an oscillating object to its equilibrium position is directly proportional to the displacement from that equilibrium position
spring constant
represented by k; a physical constant that varies with the material and construction of a spring and is used to determine the force of a spring
