Esophagus pushes food down to the stomach

Mechanical: 3 layers of muscle produce a churning motion to mix food with digestive fluid to break it down
Chemical: Gastric Acid contains popsih which breaks down food as well. HydroCloric acid in stomach helps popsih break down food better
What does the stomach do for digestion and how?
Because it has a smaller diameter than the large intestine

To produce bile

It breaks up large fat droplets into smaller droplets

Stores and releases bile into the large intestine

-Found between stomach and small intestine
-Role: Produces enzymes to break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fat

-Happens once food is broken down
-Inner surface of small intestine use its villi to absorb nutrients
What happens in absorption?
Finger shaped structure in the small intestine that absorb nutrients from the bloodstream
What are villi?
The diameter of the large intestine is bigger than that of the small intestine
Why is the large intestine Called the large intestine, even though its shorter than the small intestine?
-Goes up the right side of the abdomen, across the abdomen, and then down the left side
