what happens during the exposition?
characters are introduced, the setting is established, author gives useful and needed background info, reader gets the "basic situation" there might be a hint at the conflict
what happens during rising action?
character tries to solve the conflict, may have several "road blocks", characters and conflict are fully developed, suspense builds and reader becomes involved
what happens during the climax?
scene where the character solves, or is defeated by the conflict, turning point of the story, most exciting, suspenseful, dramatic part of the story, reader can then predict the rest of the story
what happens during the resolution?
the theme of the story becomes clear, the character has changed or learned something, the solution to the conflict and other parts of the story is explained, situation becomes better or the character meets tragic ending, overall conclusion, not too long
