Came in force in June 1961.
12 countries involved initially but 41 joined.
They sustain and manage Antarctica by taking decisions every year to improve Antarctica.
What did they do
Signed the protocol on environmental protection in 1991 to ensure Antarctica is protected from war and dedicated for peace and science.
