no beginning and His existence will never end
God existed before all else existed, even time, for time is measured by the movement of the planets and stars, which God created. Because God is infinite and eternal, He knows all that was, is and will be. God can ordain what will happen, then cause it to occur. God's omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence all stem from His infinite and eternal being. No one else is like Him.
Psalms 90:2; 102:24-27; Isaiah 40:28; Revelation 4:8-10
God describes Himself as Love — infinitely and eternally selfless, sacrificial, faithful and unconditional in His love for His people. God showed His love by taking upon Himself our sin and absorbing sin's full penalty to open the way for us to have intimate union with Him. We love God when we receive His salvation through Christ. God's love and our responding love to Him are seen today in His Spirit alive within every believer. When the Lord Jesus returns, God's love will be fulfilled with all believers' physical resurrection to glory with Him forever.
Isaiah 38:17; John 14:21; Romans 5:8; 1 John 3:1; 4:8-10
Ask the students to review their list of attributes before coming to class next week. Tell them to be prepared to identify the attribute of God that has been the most meaningful to them this year and to tell why.
God provides a way for believers to be rescued from sin's penalty of death and hell, and to be delivered into eternal life with Him. Through Jesus' death on the cross, God opened the way for those who come to Him in faith to be redeemed — bought back from slavery to sin and sin's penalty. God does not just save repentant sinners from the justice of His wrath, He brings them to abundant life by the power of His Spirit, to be new creations, new people, with new natures.
2 Samuel 22:2-3; Psalms 34:22; 68:20; John 3:16-17; Titus 3:4-5; 1 John 4:14
and His grace includes His goodness, kindness, mercy, and love
As the sovereign ruler of the universe, God has the authority and power to do as He pleases with all that is. It pleases God to love all people, to be rich in compassion and mercy. There is nothing people can do to earn God's mercy, love and compassion. It is because of His grace that God is slow to anger and longs to forgive people. For all those who put their faith in Him, even though they were spiritually dead because of sin, God graciously makes alive with Christ.
Leviticus 26:9; 2 Chronicles 15:2; Psalms 84:11; 145:8; Matthew 5:45; 2 Corinthians 4:15; Ephesians 2:4-5
