Tell me about yourself:
My background to date has centered on preparing myself to be a well-rounded merchandising professional. I graduated at UNT with a Bachelor of Science as a dual major in Fashion Merchandising and Digital Retailing.
I have about five years of retail experience. Working at nordstrom has prompted me to develop fast conflict resolution. I also provide leadership with my team in all aspects of customer service which demonstrates my dedication and effectiveness in the retail environment. I enjoy studying fashion apparel, culture and the things that inspire them.
Why do you want this job?
I want this job because I want to expound my desires for merchandising. I'm a recent graduate who is ready to exit the sales floor and focus on the brand marketing, Product Development, the Production and Sales side of retail. I also believe I will be a great asset for the company.
What do you know about the company?
Bioworld merchandising is a design and distribution company of licensed and private label
apparel, headwear & accessories. They are involved in all retail channels.
What can you bring to bioworld merchandising from your experience at nordstrom?
With my retail experience I can maximize brand awareness and increase sales by building relationships, using my knowledge of consumer behavior and product knowledge and merchandising skills and just be the support the national account sales manager needs. my management intern experience has gave me the skills in how to properly train a sales driven atmosphere and work in a collaborative environment
I demonstrate strong communication and organization skills.
I am comfortable working on my own while receiving remote coaching and supervision. I
possess an outgoing personality..
I have the ability to be flexible and adapt to very dynamic and evolving retail landscape. I have the merchandising foundations down from my experience and academic background.
I am introvert which means im a thinker. When someone asks a question, Im always thinking of an answer or making sure I am going to say the correct things. so in group settings, group meetings or collaborations, I tend to not stand out and not speak up as quickly. This tends to single me out as the weaker which is not true. I can overcome my weakness by writing things out for me to say, or to mentally prepare myself before a meeting so that in the actual meeting, I'll have more planned out to say instead of thinking on the spot. But being an introvert has many positive qualities: like easily not being distracted by outside noise and paying close attention to details, working independently and both collaborative,
Name a time that you had to bounce several priorities what did you do?
Meeting graduation deadlines/internship: School, make a list, figure out the priories that need to be done first and last, break what I need to do for each task to make it easier, and tackle each priority one by one. I write everything down in a planner.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I see myself becoming a Brand manager for a well known brand, training others to work in both major and local retail stores, to deliver exceptional brand experiences. I also want to have some experience on the creating side, maybe get my foot in the door on product development and to be a Trend Analyst for an apparel brand.
Why should we hire you?
You should hire me because I can adapt to a new environment seamlessly. My whole background is built upon Fashion merchandising and studying consumer behavior. I basically meet all the qualifications of the job such as: experienced in sales support, professional interaction, organized, able to work remotely and collaborative with remote supervision, present an outgoing personality with great communication skills, and able to problem solve.
How much do you want to get paid?/What kind of salary do you need?
I want to get paid annually about: 45,000k, I sell about 18,000 sales per pay period which is about $18-20 per hour, (we cannot accept your offer), do you have any room to move? What are you looking to counter with? I cannot accept anything lower than 42,000. I already have about five years of retail experience, I am knowledgeable about the evolving merchandising industry, with my double major I have a minor in Marketing with a retail certificate indicating I am suitable for the job because basically all of the skill set for the position comes from my academic and retail experience
Do you have any questions?
Can you describe how a typical work week is like as a sales coordinator? What are your expectations of me for the first month as a sales coordinator? Will there be a lot of retail math involved in this position? how does the brand maintain its relationships with other brands and vendors?
Closing: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me.
What will be the next steps? Will there be more phone interviews? and when will I hear you from you again?
Top three stengths
i am highly organized, i am creative visually especially in merchandising as i have an eye for design, color and style (being a stylist on the side), I am flexible and can adapt to new environments seamlessly (as its important for the always changing retail environment)
4 words that describe you
confident, adaptable, organized and creative
Why do you want to leave nordstrom?
I want to leave Nordstrom because I want to expand my knowledge of the entire retail process and learn how to translate brand stories to products. Right now I am comfortable there, and I don't want to be comfortable because when you are comfortable, you are not learning nor growing. I'm already knowledgeable about the customer experience in retail settings and how to adapt to the changing consumers needs. I want to learn about brand marketing, the product development process, and so on.
What made you interest in the job?
the pop culture theme of the company is what intrigued me and the goal to transform brand stories into products. I then wanted to research more about the company so I went on the website and learned more about what the brand is all about I really like. I saw a job application for the national sales account position on linkedin. I knew shelby librach worked here so I contacted her about it. She suggested that i apply for the sales coordinator position.
