STUDY

Air Mass
a large body of air with similar properties all through it
Warm Front
moving weather front along which a warm air mass slides over a cold air mass, producing clouds and precipitation
Dew Point
the temperature at which condensation begins
Cold Front
when a cold air mass pushes under a warm air mass
Relative Humidity
The ratio of the amount of water in the air at a given temperature to the maximum amount it could hold at that temperature
Stationary Front
when a warm air mass and a cold air mass meet and no movement occurs
Temperature Inversion
atmospheric condition in which warm air traps cooler air near the earth's surface
Weather
the meteorological conditions: temperature and wind and clouds and precipitation
Climate
Overall weather in an area over a long period of time
Global Warming
an increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere
Isobars
A line that joins points having the same pressure
Occluded Front
a front where a warm air mass is caught between two colder air masses and brings cool temperatures and large amounts of rain and snow
Greenhouse Effect
process by which atmospheric gases trap heat close to Earth's surface and prevent it from escaping into space
