1. Health
The complete state of physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
1. Health Status
An individual or populations overall health, taking int account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability and levels of disease risk factors

The state of being healthy, happy and content, usually determined through self assessment
1. Health Adjusted Life Expectancy
A measure of Burden of Disease, based on the life expectancy at birth, but including an adjustment for time spent in poor health. The number of years of full health that a person based can expect to live based on the current rate of ill health and mortality
1. Behavioural determinants
Actions or patterns of living of an individual or population that impact their health, including sexual activity, smoking, participation in physical activity and eating patterns

An indication of how long a person can expect to live. The years of life left to a person at a particular age if the death rate does not change

Refers to the efficient functioning of the body and its systems and the physical capacity to perform task and physical fitness

Measures the burden of disease. 1 DALY = 1 year of healthy life lost due to premature death and time lived with disease, illness or injury

Measures the effect of disease or condition on overall health. Specifically it measures the gap between the current health status and the ideal situation where everyone lives to an old age free from disease or disability

The proportion of rate of a particular disease or condition in a population at a given time
1. Social health
Ability to interact with others and participate in the community in an independent and cooperative way
2. Chronic diseases
Diseases that have a long duration and reoccurrence that often progress slowly, especially degenerative disease such as osteoarthritis. Also known as non-communicable disease
2. Cardiovascular disease
Encompasses all diseases and condition of the heart and blood vessels caused mainly by blood supply to the heart, brain and legs
2. Osteoarthritis
A group of diseases involving the degradation of joints and cartilage, causing stiffness and tenderness in the joints, as well as inflammation, pain and locking
2. Diabetes mellitus
A metabolic disease in which high blood glucose levels result from defective insulin secretion, insulin action or both
2. Cancer
A range of diseases caused by uncontrollable and abnormal cell growth; cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body resulting in further damage

Sometimes referred to as social class, factors relating to a persons socioeconomic status include income, education, occupation and employment.

A chronic condition effecting the small air passages of the lungs. When exposed to a particular trigger, a person with asthmas airways will narrow resulting in difficulty breathing
2. Remote & rural areas
These areas are defined by their population size; large rural - 25 thousand to 99 thousand, small rural - 10 thousand to 24 thousand, remote less than 5 thousand
2. Indigenous
Those that are from an indigenous or torres strait islander descent who identifies as an aboriginal or torres strait islander & is accepted as such by their community with which they live
2. High Blood Pressure
A condition where blood is pumped through the arteries at a harder and faster rate than is known as normal and healthy. Also known as hypertension
2. Musculoskeletal condition
Ill health relating to the joints, muscles and bones
2. Mental disorder
Disturbance of thoughts and feeling that effects ones behaviour and distresses the person or group of people in which surrounds them, so they cannot function normally in society

The groups derived from ranking the population according to specific criteria relating to the socioeconomic status, which are then divided into 5 equal groups

The abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat to the extent in which a persons health is adversely effected

A chronic disease caused by insufficient blood supply to the heart muscles via the coronary arteries

Disorders that affect the blood vessels that supply the brain which may result in a stroke
3. Arthritis
A condition effecting 1 or more joints that is part of the broader group of disorders of the muscles and bones called musculoskeletal disorders
3. National Health Priority areas
The collaborative initiative endorsed by the the commonwealth, state and territory government. The NHPA seek to make health sectors focus on the health of Australians. The NHPA's represent the disease groups with the largest burden of disease and potential costs to the Australian Community
