STUDY
PLAY
Cell Wall
A rigid layer that protects and supports plant cells (sometimes bacteria)
Cell Membrane
controls what can enter or leave the cell and
made of a double layer of fat (lipids)
Nucleus
Controls the whole cell, inside is the chromatin which is made of DNA and RNA
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Helps make and transport materials
Ribosomes
Makes proteins
Golgi Apparatus
Processes proteins and prepares them for use (sometimes called Golgi body)
Mitochondria
Makes (releases) energy that is available to the cell (powerhouse)
Lysosomes
Use enzymes to break down foreign matter and dead cells
Chloroplast
Capture sunlight energy to make food in plant cells
Vacuoles
Stores and transport materials in the cell
(mostly water and very large in plant cell)
Eukaryotic
Complex structures within the cell membrane
Has a NUCLEUS
Prokaryotic
Non complex, lacks a nucleus compared to eukaryotic
Centrioles
used in Cell division in animal cells
Cytoplasm
gel-like material that fills empty spaces in the cell
Nucleolus
makes ribosomes in the nucleus
Smooth ER
synthesis of fats and carbs
multicellular
made of many cells working together
unicellular
Single-celled organism, made of one cell that does everything the living thing needs
