How does glottochronology / lexostatstics work?
separate them so that there is no further contact between them, both groups will continue to speak the same tongue. But in each population, with the passage of time, changes will occur; new words will be invented and introduced whereas others will fall out of use, and pronunciation makes subtle changes.
