beginning of a story
inciting incident
the first event in a story that hooks the reader into the action of the story
setting
the time and place where a story happens
characters
the people, animals, or objects in a story who are interacting with each other
protagonist
the main character
antagonist
the person or people or force that is against the main character
point of view
the perspective that a story is written in
conflict
the problem of a story
external conflict
a problem the main character has with an outside force which could be another character, people in general, nature, etc.
internal conflict
a problem the main character has with an inside force i.e. a problem he or she is thinking about in his or her mind
rising action
events leading to the climax of a story
climax
a very important event in a story (usually the most important) which is a turning point for the main character
falling action
events leading to the resolution of a story
resolution
the ending of a story where the problem is solved
