What is Structuralism?
Studies the varied elements of consciousness. Sensations and feelings.
What is Functionalism?
Studies how consciousness changes according to the environment.
This term refers to the feelings, thoughts, memories, and desires of which we are unaware.
Known as the pleasure principal: In the unconscious. Represents basic needs and drives on which other personality factors are built. Basic instincts needed to survive.
Known as the reality principal: The rational component of the mind. Develops with experience. Control's a person's thinking and acts as a coordinator of personality. Evaluates consequences and determines the course of action in a rational manner. Indicates wants or needs.
Morality Principal: Comes from the ego. This consists of traditional values and moral of society that is learned from the parents. This allows people to know right from wrong, and experience from guilt.

Unconscious strategies used by the ego to minimize distressed caused by the conflicting demands of the id and superego.

Is a learned response to a conditioned stimulus. Bell rings and students get up. Getting up is the response.
Is a learned stimulus that an organism learns to respond too. Bell rings and students get up. The stimulus is the bell.
