Adjourning
Last stage of team developments, refers to breaking up after the work is completed and returning team members to their functional managers and teams.
Avoiding
a lose-lose conflict style in which the parties ignore the problem at hand.
Benched Resources
Resources who typically have finished a project and are not yet assigned to a new project or have a time gap between the finish and start of the new project.
Collocate
set or arrange in a place or position; especially : set side by side.
Bringing resources together physically so they work in the same location.
Colocate
When team members work together at the same physical location.
Compromising
Achieved when each of the parties involved in the conflict gives up something to reach a solution.
Neither side wins or loses in this situation.
Conflict
Incompatibility of desires, needs, or goals between two parties or individuals.
Confronting
Also called problem-solving. Facts will bear out the solution. Facts are presented to both parties and the decision will be clear.
Dedicated Resources
These resources work full-time on the project and have no competing demands on their time for other types of work.
PM has full authority and control of time and tasks to work on.
Forcing
Managing conflict by forcing a solution on the other parties. Win-lose conflict-resolution.
Forming
Beginning stage of team development, when all the members are brought together, introduced, and told the objectives of the project.
In-House Resources
Resources that already work for departments within the organization.
Interproject dependencies
Occur when you need the completed deliverables from one project to work on the current project.
Interproject resource contention
Occurs when resources are assigned to more than one project resulting in timing and availability conflict.
Low-quality resources
Resources that lack the skills or ability to complete the tasks or, in the case of physical resources, may be of low quality and unable to perform or complete the task.
Negotiating
conflict resolution technique usually involving a third party who arbitrates and helps all parties reach an agreement. Involves communicating, listening, and asking questions.
Norming
The third stage of team development, in which team members begin to settle into their roles, group cohesion grows, and positive team norms develop.
Organization Breakdown Structure (OBS)
Organization chart that shows the departments, work units, or teams within an organization (rather than individuals) and their respective work packages.
Perfoming
Fourth stage of team development, performance improves because the team has matured into an effective, fully functioning team.

A chart designates each team member against
each project activity as either Responsible,
Accountable, Consult, or Inform (RACI). A RACI
chart is technically a type of responsibility
assignment matrix chart.
R - Responsible for performing work
A - Accountable, responsible for producing deliverable/work package, or signs off on work
C - Consulted, who has input to work or decisions
I - Informed, someone who must be informed of the decisions or results.
Remote resources
Resources located in other parts of the company, or other parts of the world.
Responsibility assignment matrix (RAM)
Describes the participation by various roles in completing tasks or deliverables for a project.
A resource chart that defines the WBS identifier, the resource type needed for the WBS element, and the quantity of resources needed for the task. A WBS is displayed in chart form.

Resource allocation
Assigning available resources, or factors of production, to specific uses chosen among many possible and competing alternatives.
Resource breakdown structure (RBS)
A graphical organizational chart that groups resources together by their function.
A hierarchical list of resources related by function and resource type that is used to facilitate planning and controlling of project work.
Resource shortage
Resource with the skills needed to perform tasks is also assigned to other projects.
Resource overallocation
Occurs when resources are assigned too many tasks within a given time frame.
Shared Resources
Works for both the functional manager and the project manager.
Project manager should negotiate with the functional manager to make certain resource can complete project work.
Smoothing
Temporary way to resolve conflict in which areas of agreement are emphasized over the areas of difference.
Lose-lose conflict -resolution.
Storming
The second stage of team development, characterized by conflict and disagreement, in which team members disagree over what the team should do and how it should do it.
Team Building
Set of activities or exercises designed to get a diverse group of people to work together in an efficient and effective manner.
Trust Building
Following through, supporting team, showing concern, putting the good of the organization above your own, and being humble.
