Second Continental Congress
A congress led by George Washington that started to act like a government. They had many famous people in it like Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, and Ben Franklin.
Patriots and Loyalists
Patriots are people who don't like England and wanted freedom, Loyalists are people who still believed in the King.
Olive Branch Petition
The petition stated that the colonists were loyal to the king. They all wanted peace. The petition got its name from the olive branch, an ancient symbol for peace.
It happens before the Declaration of Independence and says that colonies should be free and independent states.

A high-ranking officer in Washington's army. Washington and him were very close.

A British general who tried to cut New England off from the rest of the colonies. His plan failed when he was cut off and surrounded in Saratoga, New York. He later surrendered.
