Logging in
Opens your computer user account and makes the computer available for use

Desktop
This is the first thing you see after you log into the Mac. It is where you see folders, files and icons.
Application (APP)
An application is a software program designed to perform one or more computer functions.
Finder
The app that lets you view and manipulate files and folders. It's the first app you see when you first log into your Mac on the left hand side of the Dock.
Menu Bar
This is a thin horizontal bar that spans the top of the Mac desktop. This always contains Apple menu (identified by an Apple logo icon), as well as the basic File, Edit, View, Windows, and Help menu items.
Icon
A shape representing a document, program or disk. It may look like a folder or a program graphic.
Spotlight
The Mac's built-in search engine, accessed by pressing Command-Space or clicking the top-right magnifying glass icon.
System Preferences
A Mac OS X utility that allows you to set various preferences for your Mac. It is found by clicking the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen.
Red Dot
The dot is to close a window.
Yellow Dot
This dot minimizes a window down to your dock. When you click on it will disappear but it is really waiting for you in the dock. This is useful for when you have many pages open and don't want to look at everything at once.
Green Dot
This dot enlarges a window to fill the screen as much as possible to view what is on the page.
Safari
Apple's Web browser that ships with Mac OS X and iPhone Os.
Force Quit
To close out an unresponsive program, after clicking the Apple home button.
