Is the engine anti-ice part of the normal pneumatic system?
No. It is a separate, independent system.

With both engine bleed valves closed, is engine anti-ice still operational?
Yes. Independent system.
What should you do if you suspect there maybe engine ice or there is significant engine vibration on the ground due to ice?
Increase N1 to 70% for a min of 15 seconds prior to selecting a higher thrust setting.
Which sections of the wing are protected by the wing anti-ice system?
The 3 outermost slats
There is a single ANTI ICE WING pb in the flight deck. How many wing anti-ice valves does this push button control?
Two wing anti-ice valves
How does slat extension affect anti-ice capability?
Anti-ice capability is reduced with slats extended. Prolonged flight in icing conditions with slats extended is not recommended.
What happens if a leak is detected in the wing anti-ice system?
The respective wing anti-ice valve closes automatically.
What do the wing anti-ice valves do with the loss of electrical power?
They automatically close
In the emergency electrical configuration on the A320 (not the A319), when will the wing anti-ice valves automatically close?
When the landing gear is lowered.
The wing anti-ice valves are displayed on which ECAM systems page?
Green arrows on the ECAM BLEED Systems page when the valves are open. Amber arrow when there is a fault.
What do the wing anti-ice valves do after landing?
They automatically close
Can you use APU bleed air for wing anti-ice?
No. The APU bleed temperature is unregulated and thus could damage the wing slats if used for anti-ice.
What happens when ANTI ICE WING pb is selected ON on the ground?
The wing A/I system is activated for a short time and then the valves close. If the system is left on, a FAULT light will eventually illuminate in the pb.
Which probes and ports are electrically heated to provide anti-icing?
1. Pitot tubes
2. Static ports
3. TAT probes
4. AOA probes
When are the probes heated automatically?
When at least one engine is running on the ground, or when the aircraft is in flight.
Can the probe heat be manually selected on?
Yes with the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pb
Which probes are not heated on the ground?
The TAT probes
Which probes are only heated to a low level on the ground?
The pitot tubes.
How are the flight deck windshields heated?
They are electrically heated to provide anti-ice and anti-fog protection.
When are the windshields automatically heated?
On the ground with at least one engine running
Can the windshields heat be manually selected ON prior to engine start?
Yes, by selecting the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pb ON.
How does the automatic windshield heat function?
On the ground the temperature will automatically be set to a low heat level. In flight it is set to a high heat level.
What is the purpose of the Structural Ice Indicator?
With the accumulation of ice on the indicator, it can be assumed that ice is also accumulating on the other exterior surfaces as well.
How can the ice indicator be seen in low light conditions?
By turning on the ICE IND & STBY COMPASS light switch.
