This is where most of the folklore comes from.
The Roman Catholic Church outlawed drama.
This was the period of time where everyone was just trying to survive so we don't have much record of the history.
The Dark Ages
This is when the Roman Catholic Church brought back drama in the form of the passion play.
Children would come to see the plays and bring their parents to listen to the sermons.
The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages passion plays focused around these three things. (The 3 M's)
Mystery, Miracles, Morality
The Actors of passion plays started to gain fame. They then came up with the idea to travel to small villages to perform and bring more people to the church. The further they got away from the church, the more they started to do their own thing. The church did not like this. They gave these actors this name.
Actors starting to do their own thing allowed for all the arts to come back, this led to the
Renaissance ( the Re-Birth)
The Renaissance started in ____________ because the nobles wanted entertainment. The nobles paid performers to write them in plays. This also started _______________, a form of improv where actors would go to the stage and take suggestions form the crowd. This was for the ___________ class.

The Elizabethan Era
Here are some facts about Elizabeth the First:
She was a very smart person. She did not marry so that she could retain her power. This made the men of the kingdom very angry. At this time the British navy was the strongest in the world and was commanded by mostly men. To combat this, Elizabeth made a band of navy members that she trusted fake treason and exile. In doing this, they were able to go out on the sea and become privateers. They would sneak up and attack any navy ship commander that Elizabeth found threatening. They would soon be known as pirates.
In this same way she had social spies as well. As we could see in the Renaissance play writes would be payed by the nobles to write and were very popular. She would pay good play writes to bring her secrets from the aristocratic class.
This person ridiculed Shakespeare for being dumb. (The name of a person in the Debate Team) Most famous book:
This person was a successful play write that was also a spy. He was in good standing with the queen. Went to Cambridge and died in a bar fight at the age of 29. Most famous work: Dr. Faustus.
