8th grade grammar: subject/ verb agreement

When the subject of a sentence is composed of 2 or more nouns or pronouns connected by AND, use a plural verb.
When 2 or more singular nouns or pronouns are connected buy OR or NOR, use a singular verb.
When you have a singular and a plural subject joined by OR or NOR you take the subject closest to the verb.
Do not misled by a phrase that comes between the subject and the verb. The verb agrees with the subject, not with the noun or pronoun in the phrase.
everyone, enerybody, anybody, anyone, nobody, somebody, someone, and no one are singular and require a singular verb.
Nouns such as civics, mathematics, dollars, measles, and news require singular verbs.
Nouns such as scissors, tweezers, trouers, and shears require plural verbs. ( These are 2 parts to these things)
group, team, committe, class, and family. mostly singular. mostly plural.
