The elements of fiction

character
one of the people (or animals) in a story
conflict
a problem or struggle between two opposing forces in a story
narrator
the person or character who actually tells the story, filling in the background information and bridging the gaps between the dialogue.
plot
the action that makes up the story
point of view
the angle from which a story is told. The angle depends upon the narrator, or person telling the story.
setting
the place and time frame in which a story takes place
theme
the message about life or human nature that is "hidden" in the story the writer tells.
(human nature= the way people behave)
climax
the high point or climax in the action of a story
plot line
The planned action or series of events in the story. There are five parts: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
