Attachement Theory
the idea that children from a close attachment to their earliest caregivers and that this attachment pattern can affect aspects of the children's later life.
Developmental Pathway
A concept to describe the sequence and timing of particular behaviors, and to highlight the known and suspected relationships of behaviors over time.
Attention Deficit Disorder
Poor or short attention span and impulsiveness inappropriate for age, with or without hyperactivity.
Conduct Disorder
A disorder characterized by overt, aggressive behavior or obvious antisocial behavior that may include such things as lying, stealing, and destruction of property. This behavior may be overt or covert.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder
An externalizing disorder of children marked by high levels of disobedience to authority but lacking the extremes of conduct disorder.

Authoritarian Parental Styles
High in control, low in warmth/acceptance; they set strict standards; rarely display affection or show pride in child's accomplishments.
Permissive Parental Styles
High in warmth/acceptance and low in control; affectionate and indulgent; few demands or responsibilities and child gets their own way; little discipline.
Authoritative Parental Styles
high in both warmth and acceptance and in control. They have high expectations, set standards, enforce rules, but make the child feel loved, and accepted.
Neglecting Parental Styles
parents demonstrate detached and very little involvement in child's life. Not supportive, and no acceptance.
Emerged Parental Style
verbal threats and disapproval, poor discipline.
Parental Monitoring
parents' ongoing awareness of what their children are doing, where, and with whom.
Language Impairment
involves difficulty understanding language or expressing oneself through language.
Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder
Characterized by : Excessive inattention, impulsiveness, hyperactivity.
Self Regulation
The ability to control one's emotions, cognitions, and behaviors by providing consequences for oneself.
Disruptive Behavior Disorder
A type of conduct disorder characterized by oppositional and defiant behavior which does not meet criteria for other conduct disorders.
