Cardiovascular or Circulatory System
Structures: heart, veins, arteries, blood
Function: transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body through the blood and removes wastes.
Digestive System
Structures: mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine
Function: breaks down food and absorbs nutrients.
Nervous System
Structures: brain, spinal cord, nerves
Function: detects information from the environment and controls body functions.
Skeletal System
Structures: bones, joints, ligaments, and cartilages
Function: supports and protects the body.
Muscular System
Structures: muscles, tendons
Function: enables movement of the body and internal organs.
Excretory/Urinary System
Structures: skin, lungs, kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra
Function: removes wastes produced by cells from our body and filtering blood.
Respiratory System
Structures: trachea, lungs, bronchi, alveoli
Function: breathing takes in oxygen and eliminates carbon dioxide--the gas exchange.
