What is Hypotonic?
Water going from outside of the cell to inside of the cell.
What is hypertonic?
High amount of water inside the cell and maybe a really salty solution on the outside (example: sea water is salty) (cells shrink
What is isotonic
When a cell has an equal amount of concentration and is equal
What is facilitated diffusion?
Movement of specific molecules across cell membranes through protein channels
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What is osmosis?
diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane
What is a solution?
A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances
What is concentration?
The amount of a substance in a certain volume of a solution
Exocytosis
a process by which the contents of a cell vacuole are released to the exterior through fusion of the vacuole membrane with the cell membrane.
cell membrane
A cell structure that controls which substances can enter or leave the cell.
active transport
-uses cellular energy & transport proteins
low to high concentration
Endocytosis
process of engulfing a substance using a cell membrane ( think of pac man eating a cell )
