Virginian surveyor who became a British officer and led the militia. [1st president]; General of the continental army, leader at the continental congress, and first president; A Virginia planter who lost more battles than he won. He, however, had great leadership skills and good character. He was patient, courageous, self-disciplined, and had a sense of justice. More of a moral force rather than a military mind. He was, in actuality, chosen since he was an aristocrat, having both money and land, that he wasn't a fortune seeker, but that he actually cared for the good of the people. Later, would become the first president.
