Indian National Congress
aka Congress Party, est. 1885. English-educated Indians that didn't necessarily want freedom from British rule, but more inclusion in political, military, and business life. (INC)
1915 rose within leadership ranks of the INC. Called for moral transformation of individuals. Sought for a harmonious society of villages, going back to ancient Indian principles. Spiritual leader who wanted independence. / "truth force"
Argued that the INC did not speak for all Indians and that Muslims were excluded. Demanded separate electorates with seats reserved for Muslims.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Leader of the Muslim League that said in the places of India where Muslim is a majority, there should be separate political status. Called it Pakistan.

Muslim pacifist. Established the Khuddai Khidmatgar ("Servants of God")
African National Congress
Educated African men who didn't want to overthrow order, but to be accepted as "civilized". Appealed to Christian values. Had peaceful protests. (ANC)
