Dundee Grade 6- Elements of Plot

Major elements of plot
Establishes the setting, introduces some of the main characters, explains background, and introduces the characters main conflict.
A narrative device that hints at coming events; often builds suspense or anxiety in the reader.
Rising Action
Adds complications to the conflict and leads to the climax of the story.
Excited anticipation of an approaching climax.

Most exciting moment of the story; turning point
(Jumping into the water)
Falling Action
All loose ends of the plot are tied up. The conflict(s) and climax are taken care of.
(landing safely in the water after diving in)
End of the story where loose ends are tied up.
Central idea of a work of literature (love, justice, death, courage, escape, fear)
