How many eras is the geologic time scale divided into?
4 (Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic and Phanerozoic)
How long in a geologic time period?
Depends on the time period. 4.54 billion years old
The ________ era was dominated by dinosaurs.
Mesozoic era (Jurassic Period)
An undisturbed sedimentary layer is _____ than the layer above, and ____ than the layer below.
older, younger
Fossils are most common in what rock types?
sedimentary rocks
What are the 3 types of rock?
the three main types, or classes, of rock are sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous
What era are we currently in at this time?
Cenozoic
The earliest forms of life occurred during the ____ era.
the pre cambrian era
Current scientific evidence shows that the Earth is estimated to be _______ years old.
4.5 billion years
Why was the geologic sandwich so hard to make?
Because you had to overlap the layers
List the 4 eras in order from the most recent, to the one that occurred the longest ago.
Cenozoic, mesozoic, paleozoic, precambrian
In the activity, "How do you stack Up?," describe how you were able to make the 4 geological columns. What helped you?
in undisturbed sequences of
sedimentary rock, the oldest layers are on the bottom. Geologists use this
principle to determine the relative age of the rocks in a small area
I made the columns by looking at the different patterns and colors and connecting them together. The colors and patterns of the rocks helped me.
Use the 4 Earth Spheres to answer the following:
*bat finds shelter in caves
*we make energy by burning fossil fuels
*a farmer plowing a field to plant crops
*a meteorite is _____ to ________
*a thunderstorm is a connection betweeen?
* Biosphere and Geosphere
* Geosphere and atmosphere
* Biosphere and Geosphere
* Atmosphere to Geosphere
* Atmosphere and hydrosphere
What do you call the solid, rocky shell composing about 82% of the Earth's volume?
mantle
Which of the Earth's layers is ALL solid iron and nickel?
inner core
As you travel from the inner core of the Earth to the crust, how would temperature, density, and pressure of the material change?
They would all change
What layer of Earth is the thickest part?
mantle
What characteristics made it easier to identify minerals? Why?
Color and streak test color make minerals easier to identify because many minerals are different colors and even if they are the same color some of the streaks might be different.
Also, identify the rock doesn't help because there are so many of that rock
Referring to our Impact Crater Lab, if a meteorite were to hit Gurnee, what angle of impact would you prefer it hit the ground with?
90 degrees because that angle would cause the least amount of damage.
The activity simulation you embarked on in class called, "The Far Flung Fossils," helped to explain the Theory of Continental Drift using fossil evidence. Explain, using at least 3 pieces of evidence, why this activity supports this theory.
Three pieces of evidence to support continental drift using fossils are some of the same fossils from hundreds of years ago had the same fossils on many of the same continents. The theory is all the continents were together and as the broke away, over time species migrated to different parts of the globe. Then the adapted to fit their surrounding making new species that are seemingly related around the world. Also the continents seem to fit together. The groove suggest a glacier started in Antarctica and moved outward towards the other continents.

The Mendeleev and Moseley periodic charts had gaps for undiscovered elements. Why do you think the chart used by Moseley was more accurate at predicting where new elements would be placed ?
physics
Compare this problem with the preceding problem. A plane sound wave in air at $20^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$, with wavelength $589 \mathrm{~mm}$, is incident on a smooth surface of water at $25^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$, at an angle of incidence of $3.50^{\circ}$. Determine the angle of refraction for the sound wave and the wavelength of the sound in water.
biology
Some wetland birds, such as storks and flamingos, have long legs. How might this adaptation help these obtain food?
chemistry
Calculate the $(H^+)$ of each of the following solutions at $25^\circ C.$ Identify each solution as neutral, acidic, or basic. $[ O H ^ { - } ] = 7.3 \times 10 ^ { - 4 } M.$ Also calculate the pH and pOH of each of these solutions.
