Gave millions of acres to native tribes. Protected land from development by oil, gas, mining industries.
Debate over Nuclear Energy
Some promote nuclear energy as a way to end dependence on foreign oil. Produces no pollution, but waste is radioactive for centuries, accidents possible.
Three Mile Island
1979 accident at Pennsylvania nuclear power plant. Some radiation escapes, area is evacuated. Some call for end to nuclear power plants.
